Thanks for helping with the clean-up. And for those of you who could not make it tonight, so sorry you missed a great time. The weather was perfect, the band was excellent, and the food must have been edible because it’s ALL gone! We ran out of dogs, buns and soda right around 6 p.m., but Don Merkes made a run to get more and everyone who wanted to eat was fed. For the record, we started with:

204 buns, 201 brats & hot dogs, 204 cookies, 4 big watermelons, 70 bottles of water, 32 juice boxes, 144 cans of soda, 200 chip packs, and 40 pounds of pasta salad. Given the additional food brought in, I think we must have had nearly 250 people.

Again, thanks to all who pitched in. It was a great evening and there were lots of smiling faces at the end of it. It’s so great to see people of all ages come together this way.

Do your want to learn more about living with mental illness? Schedule an “In Our Own Voice” presentation for your community group or organization.

This program is presented by two adults living with mental illness who discuss their experience from dark days, when they weren’t sure what they were experiencing, through acceptance, treatment, coping, and successes, hopes and dreams. This presentation is appropriate for audiences from the boardroom to the classroom.

Despite advances in the understanding of treatment for mental illness, people who live with bipolar disorder, major depression, schizophrenia, and other severe persistent conditions continue to face barriers in public attitudes that often deter them from engaging in recovery.

“In our Own Voice” presentations enrich the audiences’ understanding of how the more than 58 million Americans living with mental illness cope while also reclaiming rich and meaningful lives.

By broadening people’s knowledge of mental illness, we replace misunderstanding, fear, and judgment with insight, awareness and acceptance.

Each presentation:

•	Lasts from 60 to 90 minutes
•	Is offered free of charge.
•	Is delivered to a variety of audiences
•	Follows a structured format covering issues frequently faced by those dealing with mental illness

The program is deal for:

•	Human resource departments and corporations
•	Healthcare providers
•	Law enforcement professionals
•	Faith communities
•	Any community or civic organization
Here is a free training to be offered in any environment through NAMI Fox Valley to educate others about mental illness and recovery. Many of the speakers are members of Friendship Place.

I would like to encourage you to call Greg Pekarske-Siers at NAMI @ (920) 954-1550 to schedule a training with your staff. We had two speakers present at FP. Even if you work in mental health, this is a great presentation. Ours lasted 60 minutes.
