Valley Transit and the East Central Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission will be providing several opportunities for public input on the Valley Transit Development Plan. This plan evaluates the current transit services and proposes recommendations for improved service over the next 5 years. These public input opportunities will begin with a short presentation on the draft plan, followed by a question and comment period.

Fox Cities Reads
The 2009 Fox Cities Reads is under way! Join your neighbors in reading and discussing the works of Wisconsin author Michael Perry. Michael chronicles life in Wisconsin and especially his hometown of New Auburndale in the northwest part of the state. His books include Population 485: Meeting Your Neighbors One Siren at a Time, Truck: A Love Story, and Off Main Street: Barnstormers, Prophets, and Gatemouths Gator.
Michael will be making appearances throughout the Fox Cities including right here in Menasha the evening of April 15th at 7 pm.

Fox Cities Book Festival
The 2nd Annual Fox Cities Book Festival will be held April 14-19. Join us in celebrating the pure joy of reading by connecting with authors right here in our community. Events will be held each day with a wide variety of authors participating across the entire Fox Cities area. You can check out the full schedule at www.foxcitiesbookfestival.org.
Here at our library, we will be having several events on Thursday, April 16th:
Award-winning picture book author, Gerald McDermott will be doing a presentation on Myth and Magic: The Art of Gerald McDermott at 10:00 am. McDermotts art will also be on display at the Bergstrom-Mahler Museum, so you can hear the artist and then view his work.
That afternoon at 2:00 pm, the Cooperative Childrens Book Center will be doing a presentation on Award-Winning Childrens Books from the last year.
Our library will also be hosting a series of mystery author presentations on Saturday, April 18th.

Fox Cities Book Festival Café Conversations
A Prelude to the Fox Cities Book Festival!
In an effort to get acquainted with the authors that will be visiting the Fox Cities Book Festival, there will be a number of Café Conversations around the area. These discussions will be led by somebody familiar with the work of the author. Two of these events will be led by staff from the Menasha Public Library -
April 9th at 2 pm, Generations Coffee House in Neenah
Joe Bongers will lead a discussion of The Turtle Warrior by Mary Relindes Ellis.
April 13th at 7 pm, Menasha Public Library
Vanessa Taylir will lead a discussion focusing on four mystery writers: John Galligan, Marshall Cook, Mary Logue, and Victoria Houston. These four authors will appear at the Menasha Public Library on Saturday April 18th.

Experience Iditarod
Thursday, April 9th at 6:30 pm in the Co E Room
Live the Alaskan adventure - the real Iditarod Experience - through the eyes and stories of Duane “Dewey” Halverson, nine-time veteran Iditarod Alaska Sled Dog Race Musher. Hear a history of the trail, background on the race, and dozens of stories about heroics on the trail and in the Alaskan bush. One lucky audience member will even get to dress in Dewey’s survival gear.
Dewey will showcase an authentic sled, trail equipment, his trophies, photos, and a real sled dog! Come ask questions, check out the equipment, visit with the sled dog, and be inspired to live your dreams.

1000 Books Before Kindergarten Graduation Celebration
The Childrens Department congratulates all of the families who have completed the 1000 Books Before Kindergarten program at a special event on Monday, April 6 from 6:30-7:15 p.m. We would like to honor all the children who have finished the program since March, 2008 by hosting a mini-graduation ceremony complete with refreshments. Poetry Fest
The Childrens Department presents a poetry fest on Tuesday, April 7 from 6:30-7:15 p.m. Feel the rhythm! Feel the rhyme! Recite it too! Its poetry time! The winners of our poetry contest will read their poetry for family and friends in celebration of National Poetry Month. Cookie reception will follow. This recital is free and open to the whole family.
Schools Out Special: A Visit from Ms. Frizzle
That wild, wacky Ms. Frizzle from The Magic School Bus is back on Tuesday, April 14 from 1:30-2:15 p.m. Ms. Frizzle presents a Schools Out Special with some more of her kid friendly science experiments. Join us for the Schools Out Special: Animals Galore! on Wednesday, April 15 from 1:30-2:15 p.m. Learn fun facts about African mammals at this program. Take zoo notes with your special animal print notebook, pen, and pencil. Then win an animal print slap bracelet in our survival of the fittest race. Go on a Dewey Decimal scavenger hunt in the book stacks, but be careful. Its a jungle out there! For kids in grades K-5.

Preschool Players Theater Group
Preschool Players Theater Group begins on Tuesday, May 5, 12, and 19 from 6:30-7:00 p.m. The plays the thing in this special three-week theater experience for kids ages 4-5 who are ready to be on their own and in a play. We will practice the first two weeks and present a gala performance (with cast party at the end!) on the third Tuesday for parents and other family members. Bi-lingual storyteller Kay Weeden, La Cuentista ListaThe Clever Storyteller, appears on Monday, April 27 from 6:30-7:15 p.m. at the library. She will tell stories in honor of El día de los niños/El día de los libros Celebration (Childrens Day/Book Day). Kays delightful animated stories invite warm participation from audiences of all ages and cultures. This fun family bilingual program is free.
Hotel for Dogs
On Thursday, April 30 from 6:30-8:00 p.m., the movie Hotel for Dogs will be shown in the Co. E room. This is the wild and wacky story of a loveable bunch of stray dogs and the ingenious kids who save them by starting their own hotel for dogs. When Andi and Bruce find themselves in a new foster home with a ‘no pets’ policy, they must put their heads together to find a new home for Friday, their dog. When they discover an abandoned hotel, they transform it into a magical dog paradise for Friday, as well as all the strays in the city. Join us for another doggone fun movie with free popcorn provided.
